Why do soldering irons use rosin?

I often see people asking why rosin is added to soldering these days, and here I have roughly summarized it. Rosin is the most commonly used soldering flux, neutral. If it is a newly printed circuit board, a layer of loose perfume should be coated on the surface of the copper foil before welding. If it is a pre made circuit board, it can be directly soldered. In fact, the use of rosin depends on personal habits. Some people soak the soldering iron tip in rosin after soldering each component. The use of rosin is also very simple. Open the rosin box and soak the electrified soldering iron tip on it. If solid solder is used during welding, adding some rosin is necessary; If rosin tin welding wire is used, rosin can be omitted.

The role played by rosin during soldering. Rosin has weak acidity at the temperature of an electric soldering iron, which can clean the oxide layer on the welding surface and allow the solder to wet the welding surface. Nowadays, in the general electronics industry, there is rosin in the middle of the solder used. Just dip a little on the soldering iron, and the solder wire will work directly on the soldering iron. The types of soldering flux can be roughly divided into three series: organic, inorganic, and resin. Resin flux is usually extracted from the secretions of trees and is a natural product with little corrosiveness. Rosin is a representative of this type of flux, so it is also known as rosin flux. Because solder flux is usually used in conjunction with solder, it can be divided into soft solder flux and hard solder flux corresponding to solder. Commonly used in the assembly and maintenance of electronic products include rosin, rosin mixed flux, solder paste, and hydrochloric acid soft flux. In addition, the selection should be based on different welding workpieces in different occasions. When using solder flux, it must be applied in an appropriate amount according to the size and surface condition of the welded part. If the amount is too small, it will affect the welding quality. If the amount is too large, the solder residue will corrode the components or deteriorate the insulation performance of the circuit board.
