10 points for safe use of clamp Ammeter
1. When using clamp Ammeter, pay attention to the grade of clamp Ammeter and the gear of Ammeter, select the clamp of corresponding model reasonably, and the voltage and current of the measured circuit shall not exceed the maximum value allowed on the meter.
2. Measurements should be conducted in thunderstorm free weather, and outdoor measurements are prohibited during humid or thunderstorm weather. When measuring, it is generally carried out by two people, one person operating and one person monitoring.
During nighttime measurements, sufficient lighting should be provided, and measuring personnel should wear safety helmets, insulated gloves, and insulated shoes. Adequate safety distance should be maintained between the human body and live parts.
3. Before using the clamp type Ammeter, check whether the insulation of the iron core of the clamp type ammeter is intact, the jaw should be clean and free of rust, and there should be no obvious gap after the jaw is closed.
4. General clamp gauges should not be used for high voltage measurements. Clamp Ammeter with the function of measuring AC voltage shall measure current and voltage separately and not simultaneously.
5. After each measurement, place the change-over switch for adjusting the current range at the highest gear to avoid accidental damage to the clamp Ammeter by measuring without selecting the range next time.
6. Clamp Ammeter shall be stored in a special dry box and cabinet indoors. When carrying and using, it should not be subjected to strong vibrations.
7. Before measurement, the current should be estimated first, and then the range switch should be placed in the corresponding gear according to the estimation results. The best measurement data should be with the pointer within the range of 1/2 to 1/3 of the dial. When there is a large discrepancy between the estimated data and the range, the jaw should be withdrawn from the wire first, and then the range switch should be adjusted, but it is prohibited to adjust the range switch when there is a wire in the jaw.
Switching gears during the measurement process can instantly open the secondary side of the current transformer, causing damage to the clamp meter and even endangering personal safety.
8. The tested wire should be located in the center of the clamp mouth of the clamp meter, and the clamp mouth of the clamp meter should be tightly closed after placing the wire, otherwise the measured data may be inaccurate due to severe magnetic exposure.
9. If a large current is tested and a small current is measured immediately, the iron core should be opened and closed several times to eliminate residual magnetism in the iron core and reduce errors.
10. If the measured current is less than 5 A, in order to obtain an accurate value, if conditions permit, the conductor can be wound on the iron core of the clamp Ammeter for several turns, and then put into the jaw for measurement. The measured current reading divided by the number of conductors in the jaw is the actual current value.
