Choose the power principle of electric soldering iron

The selection of electric soldering iron generally follows the following principles:

① The shape of the soldering iron tip should adapt to the surface requirements of the weldment and the assembly density of the product.

② The temperature of the tip of the soldering iron tip should be compatible with the melting point of the solder, which is generally higher than the melting point of the solder by  30 - 80℃  (excluding the temperature dropped when the soldering iron tip touches the soldering point).

③ The heat capacity of the soldering iron should be appropriate. The temperature recovery time of the soldering iron tip should be adapted to the requirements of the surface of the weldment. The temperature recovery time refers to the time required for the tip temperature of the soldering iron tip to return to the highest temperature after the temperature of the tip of the soldering iron decreases due to heat loss during the soldering cycle. It is related to the power of the electric soldering iron, heat capacity, and the shape and length of the soldering iron tip.

The power principle for choosing a soldering iron is as follows:
① When soldering integrated circuits, transistors and other heated and vulnerable components, consider using  20W internal heating or  25W external heating electric soldering iron.

② When soldering thicker wires and coaxial cables, consider choosing  50W  internal heating type or  45 - 75W external heating type electric soldering iron.

③  When soldering larger components, such as metal chassis grounding pads, you should choose an electric soldering iron above  100W .

Soldering iron use
The electric soldering iron should not be energized for a long time without using it. This will easily cause the soldering iron core to burn out due to accelerated oxidation and shorten its life. At the same time, the soldering iron tip will be oxidized due to long-term heating, and even be "burned to death" and no longer "eating tin" .

Precautions for using electric soldering iron
①  Reasonable selection of different types of electric soldering irons according to the welding object.

② Do not hit the tip of the soldering iron arbitrarily during use to avoid damage. The thickness of the steel pipe wall of the connecting rod of the internal heating electric soldering iron is only  0.2mm , so it cannot be clamped with pliers to avoid damage. During use, it should be maintained frequently to ensure that the tip of the soldering iron is covered with a thin layer of tin.
