How to measure leakage current with multimeter

The multimeter can measure not only voltage but also leakage. There are two methods to measure leakage, one is resistance method, and the other is voltage method. Regardless of resistance method or voltage method, the red stylus is inserted into the VΩ hole of multimeter, and the black stylus is inserted into the COM hole of multimeter.
How to measure the leakage of an electrical equipment by resistance method? First, turn off the power supply of the electrical equipment, use a multimeter, and first adjust the gear of the multimeter to the buzzer of resistance. One probe of the multimeter is placed on the shell of the electrical equipment, and the other probe is placed on the live wire and the zero wire respectively. If the multimeter makes noise, it means that the electrical equipment is leaking seriously, and the location of the leakage must be checked.
If the multimeter doesn't make noise, it is necessary to raise the resistance range of the multimeter step by step until the resistance value is measured. Generally speaking, the resistance value below 0.38M ohms is leakage, and the resistance value above 0.38M ohms is no leakage.
Measure the leakage of electrical equipment by voltage method, close the switch of electrical equipment, and help the multimeter shift to the 700V gear of AC gear (the gear of each multimeter may be different, so it is adjusted to the maximum gear of current gear). The red stylus of the multimeter is placed on the shell of the electrical equipment, and the black stylus is placed on the zero line. The multimeter shows the voltage, indicating that the electrical equipment is leaking, and the multimeter shows that the voltage is zero, indicating that there is no leakage.
The voltage method has some limitations in measuring leakage, which can only measure the leakage of live wire, but not the leakage of neutral wire. If there are capacitive components in electrical equipment, it will also affect the accuracy of voltage measurement, so the voltage method is not recommended.
