There are two test buttons on the electric pen for direct testing and inductive breakpoint testing. When using, we only need to select and touch these two buttons based on our own testing purposes.

This feature is the advantage of a digital display pen over a neon bubble pen. When measuring, it is necessary to disconnect the power supply, hold one end of the wire with one hand, touch the sensing button with the thumb with the other hand, and touch the other end of the wire with the tip of the electric pen. The light bulb illuminates, indicating that the wires are connected.

This function is not very useful, especially for multi-core cables that cannot be tested and are not sensitive.


Although this type of electric pen directly displays voltage, its accuracy is questionable. Many electrician friends have reported that sometimes it is not accurate at all and may even lead to misjudgment.


The light is too strong to see clearly, the light is too dark to see clearly, and the reading sometimes flickers, which is its shortcomings. So I usually don't use digital pens.

This type of electric pen is a new product developed in recent years. It is very convenient to determine whether an object is charged or not, and it can distinguish between zero and live wires at a glance. It is not limited by environmental light factors, especially in measuring breakpoints, which is very practical. The disadvantage is that it does not display voltage, at least so far, I have not used this function myself.


This type of electric pen has a plastic casing that reduces the possibility of electric shock. It is super simple to use. When measuring, turn on the power first, and some simply press and hold the power button. If the electromagnetic field is strong and there is no need to contact a charged object, an alarm will be triggered, which indirectly reduces the possibility of charging.


Personal experience shows that all three types of electric pens have their own strengths, but they can only test whether an object is charged and cannot accurately determine the voltage. When we need to measure the accurate voltage of a charged object, a multimeter is still reliable.
