The Steps Of The Soldering Iron Tip Of The Electric Soldering Iron To Eat Tin

The steps of the soldering iron tip of the electric soldering iron to eat tin

1. Grinding or wiping

Ordinary head: first use sandpaper to grind or file it, the length of grinding is slightly longer than the height of the slope, be careful until the plane is clean and smooth. Then wipe off with a clean, dry cloth.

Longevity Head: Do not sand or file, only wipe off with a clean, dry cloth.

2. Eat tin
Prepare a small box of rosin (although the solder wire contains rosin, but the amount is too small, it is not easy to eat tin), connect the power plug, wait for a while, the tip of the soldering iron will heat up, use the tip of the soldering iron to touch the rosin to estimate the temperature. If the rosin can just be melted, it means that the temperature is still low; if the rosin emits white smoke and the soldering iron hair is purple, it means that the temperature is too high; only when the rosin can melt quickly and does not smoke a lot, the temperature is the best.

When the temperature of the soldering iron tip reaches the optimum level, evenly dip the soldering iron tip with rosin.

The soldering iron dipped in rosin should quickly melt the solder wire on the soldering iron frame to make it a large solder point (add a little rosin), and the soldering iron tip is immersed and rotated repeatedly until the polished part of the soldering iron tip is evenly eaten tin.

3. Aging:
After the soldering iron tip eats tin, age the soldering iron.

Aging is not to use a soldering iron for soldering temporarily, let it continue to be energized and heated for a while, then unplug the power cord, and place it on a soldering iron stand to let it cool naturally.

Aging can prolong the life of soldering iron tips and cores, especially for new soldering iron tips and cores. After eating tin and aged soldering iron, it can be used normally in the future.

If it is an electric soldering iron in normal use, before a new round of energized welding, it is necessary to check whether the soldering iron tip is "burned" or "port is incomplete".

"Burn to death" means that the tin eating part of the soldering iron tip has been oxidized and turned into a burnt black head, no longer dipped in tin or the ability to dip in tin is very poor; "port incomplete" means that the working surface is deformed or cracked. Both of these situations require re-tinning the tip of the soldering iron.

Two reasons why the soldering iron tip does not eat tin

1. Inexpensive internal heat type low-power electric soldering iron
The soldering iron head of this internal heating type electric soldering iron is made of copper, without constant temperature function, and cannot be adjusted.

After this kind of electric soldering iron is energized for a period of time, the temperature of the soldering iron tip will become higher and higher, and the copper soldering iron tip is easy to oxidize and blacken at high temperature. Even if the soldering iron tip is polished with sandpaper or a file, it will still oxidize and blacken after a while.

If it is indeed the use of a cheap electric soldering iron that causes the soldering iron tip to oxidize and turn black and do not eat tin, it is recommended to replace the electric soldering iron. It is best to use a constant temperature soldering iron or an adjustable temperature soldering iron. For example, the tip of the 936 adjustable temperature electric soldering iron can be replaced, and there are many shapes, which can be selected according to the welding needs. This kind of soldering iron tip is made of alloy material, which is not easy to oxidize at high temperature. As long as the soldering iron tip is not corroded by acid flux, and the soldering iron tip is not used to scald hot melt glue or plastic, the soldering iron tip is easy to tin.

2. Use acidic flux or solder wire with too many impurities
Many novice welders prefer to use acidic solder paste as flux when welding. This flux is slightly acidic and will be corrosive to some inferior soldering iron tips.

It is recommended to use block rosin or rosin alcohol solution as flux when soldering.

In addition, cheap solder wire contains more impurities, and the use of this solder wire will also cause the tip of the soldering iron to not eat tin.

This kind of solder wire has poor wettability and fluidity after melting, and the solder joints are dark, not smooth and bright solder joints. If the quality of the solder wire is poor and the soldering iron tip does not eat tin, it is recommended to use a good quality low-melting point solder wire when soldering.
