9 reasons why your soldering iron won't stick to tin
1. If the temperature is too high, the tin surface of the soldering iron tip will easily oxidize violently.
2. Do not tin the tin-dipped noodles before use.
3. Use incorrect or defective cleaning methods.
4. Use impure solder or the flux in the soldering wire is interrupted.
5. When the working temperature exceeds 350°C and the welding is stopped for more than 1 hour, the amount of tin on the lead-free soldering iron tip is too small.
6. "Dry burning" the soldering iron tip, such as if the soldering station is left open and not used, but there is no tin on the surface of the soldering iron tip, which will cause rapid oxidation of the soldering iron tip.
7. The flux used is highly corrosive, causing rapid oxidation of the soldering iron tip.
8. Use neutral active flux and do not frequently clean the oxide on the soldering iron tip.
9. Contact with organic matter such as plastics, lubricants or other compounds. The usual way to deal with it.
How to restore soldering iron from not sticking to tin
1. Lower the temperature of the soldering station to about 280 degrees, place the soldering iron tip on a damp sponge, wipe it repeatedly and apply new tin for protection without interruption. Repeat the above actions until the lead-free soldering iron tip is brightly tinned.
2. Turn off the power supply of the soldering iron, use a blade or fine sandpaper to polish off the dirt and oxides on the tin plated surface of the soldering iron tip, then put the soldering iron tip into rosin or rosin paste, turn on the power supply of the soldering iron, and adjust the temperature to about 280 degrees. Let the soldering iron tip heat in the rosin, and then use solder wire to tin the soldering iron tip. After applying the tin, find a piece of copper wire or a soldering wire, and rub the soldering iron tip against the copper wire repeatedly until the solder fills the entire soldering iron.
3. Adjust the soldering iron temperature to 300-360 degrees, insert it into the special soldering iron tip repair paste, wait for a few seconds and then use solder wire to tin the soldering iron tip.
