Application of Infrared Thermometer in Railway Industry

At present, there are three types of train traction in my country: steam locomotive traction, diesel locomotive traction and electric locomotive. Among them, railways that use electric locomotives to haul trains are called electrified railways. Electric traction has the characteristics of high horsepower, fast speed, low energy consumption, and high efficiency. In the section where electric traction is used, the transportation capacity is significantly improved and the transportation cost is greatly reduced. At the same time, the performance and working conditions of the locomotive are better than those of internal combustion locomotives. It is the future development direction of my country's railway traction power.

The widespread use of electric locomotives also makes more and more equipment on the railway system, so how to effectively detect electrical or mechanical equipment has become an important issue at present.
Now infrared thermal imaging cameras can do this, and can perform condition maintenance in a short time without shutting down. Using Ti infrared thermal imaging camera to replace the regular cleaning and fastening work in traditional maintenance can save 50%-90% of the cost and effectively prevent the occurrence of fire. Whether new or old, equipment can benefit from a thermal imaging camera inspection. Such as all electrical equipment, power distribution systems, including high-voltage contactors, fuse panels, main power circuit breaker panels, contactors, and all distribution lines, motors, transformers, etc., conduct infrared thermal imaging inspections to ensure that all operations Advanced electrical equipment does not have potential thermal hazards, effectively preventing fires and unexpected shutdowns.

Below are some facilities that require a thermal imaging camera inspection.
1. Various electrical devices: Loose joints or contact damage, unbalanced load, overload, overheating and other hidden dangers can be found. The potential effects that these hidden dangers may cause are arcing, short circuit, burning, and fire. Their average repair cost is 10,000 to 50,000 yuan; replacement costs 80,000 to 100,000 yuan, and the construction period is several weeks to months.

2. Transformer: The hidden dangers that can be found include loose joints, overheating of bushings, contact failure (tap changer), overload, unbalanced three-phase load, and poor cooling pipe blockage. The effects are arcing, short circuit, burning, and fire. Rewinding requires tens of thousands of dollars of funds, replacement is hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the construction period is several weeks or months.

3. Motors and generators: The hidden dangers that can be found are excessive bearing temperature, unbalanced load, short circuit or open circuit of windings, heating of carbon brushes, slip rings and collector rings, overload and overheating, and blockage of cooling pipes. The impact is that faulty bearings can cause damage to the iron core or winding rings, and faulty carbon brushes can damage slip rings and collector rings, thereby damaging the winding coils. It may also cause damage to the drive target. It costs tens of thousands of yuan to rewind the coil of the motor (5,000 horsepower), and hundreds of thousands of yuan to replace it. The construction period is several weeks to several months.

4. Various transmission equipment, such as transmission, traction machinery, etc.
Thermal imaging cameras are able to identify thermal hazards at all connection points for all equipment that can be directly seen. For those parts that cannot be directly seen due to shielding, thermal hazards can be found based on the conduction of heat to external components. Comparison: Traditionally, there is no way to perform operational tests of circuit breakers, conductors, busbars, and other components other than dismantling and cleaning joints.

In addition, the use of thermal imaging cameras instead of cleaning and fastening by traditional methods can save a lot of money. There are two reasons for this savings:
1 First of all, the infrared thermal imaging camera inspection is carried out very quickly, instead of spending a lot of manpower on cleaning and fastening the equipment like the traditional method.

2 In addition, when the infrared thermal imager inspection is in progress, the equipment is not required to be powered off, but only after the hidden dangers are found, a short-term power outage is required when repairing.

3 And the power outage for repairing individual hidden dangers is only partial, and the power outage time is very limited, and it may even be arranged to be repaired during the planned power outage time.
