Application of thermometer in automobile industry
Infrared thermometers are proven to be a cost-effective diagnostic and preventive tool for maintenance inspections of electrical systems and equipment. Raytek's entire line of infrared thermometers provide temperature values with an accuracy of 1-4%, and can measure temperatures up to 180 feet away, depending on the model used. These tools are lightweight, durable, and easy to use.
Measuring electrical components
Non-contact infrared thermometers can measure the surface temperature of objects at long distances and are an indispensable tool in electrical maintenance work.
Electrical applications
Prevent equipment failure and unplanned downtime in the following applications.
Connectors - Electrical connections that develop heat over time due to loose connections, repeated heating (expansion) and cooling (contraction), or dust, carbon deposits, and corrosion. Non-contact thermometers can quickly identify a rise in temperature that could indicate a serious problem with your equipment.
Electric Motors - To extend the life of your motor, check that the power connections and circuit breaker (or heater) are at the same temperature.
Motor Bearings - Monitor hot spots and perform planned repairs or replacement parts before equipment failure occurs.
Motor winding insulation - Extend the life of winding insulation by measuring its temperature.
Phase-to-Phase Measurements - Check that cables and connectors on induction motors, mainframe computers, and other equipment have the same phase-to-phase temperatures.
Transformers - Check the windings of air-cooled units for hot spots that indicate winding defects.
Uninterruptible Power Supplies - Locate local hot connections in the UPS output filter. Cold spots may indicate that the DC filter circuit is open.
Backup battery - Check that the low voltage battery is properly connected. A poorly connected battery connection can heat up enough to burn the terminals.
Ballasts - Check for overheated ballasts before they start to smoke.
Common Equipment - Find hot spots in connections, cable joints, transformers and other equipment. Some Raytek models feature optical ranges of 60:1 or higher, making it easy to measure almost any target.
