Brief Introduction to the Cleaning Method for Metallographic Microscopes
Among various metallographic instruments, metallographic microscopes are widely used. However, maintenance of metallographic equipment can sometimes be costly. In fact, cleaning a metallographic microscope is straightforward. The procedures are as follows:
① When cleaning all glass components, wipe gently with gauze to remove fingerprints and oil stains. Moisten the gauze with a small amount of mixed solution of ether (70%) and ethanol (30%) for wiping.
② Do not splash any liquid onto the microscope. If liquid splashes onto it, immediately turn the main switch to "O", unplug the power cord, and
wipe off any liquid on or under the objective lens.
③ Do not use organic solvents to clean non‑optical parts of the microscope. To clean these parts, use a lint‑free soft cloth slightly dampened
with neutral detergent.
④ When no objective lens is installed, cover the mounting screw hole on the objective nosepiece to prevent dust and splashed tissue culture fluid from entering the interior of the lens assembly.
⑤ Cover the microscope with the dust cover when it is not in use. Wait until the lamp holder has fully cooled before covering.
⑥ Do not disassemble any part of the microscope, as this will cause performance degradation or malfunction.
⑦ Equipment emitting ultraviolet rays used near the microscope may cause fading of the yellow painted surface of the microscope. Avoid direct contact between the microscope and such equipment.
