Can an infrared thermometer measure room temperature?

Infrared thermometers cannot measure room temperature. Infrared thermometers are generally used to measure solid heat sources, such as the temperature of molding machine screws, heating coils, human bodies, etc. Infrared thermometers sense temperature through reflected laser beams.

Attention should be paid to the following issues when using an infrared thermometer:
1. Only measuring surface temperature, infrared thermometers cannot measure internal temperature.

2. Wavelength above 5um cannot be measured through quartz glass, as glass has unique reflection and transmission characteristics that do not allow for precise infrared temperature readings. But temperature can be measured through an infrared window. It is best not to use infrared thermometers for temperature measurement on bright or polished metal surfaces (such as stainless steel, aluminum, etc.).

3. To locate hotspots, the instrument aims at the target and then performs up and down scanning movements on the target until the hotspot is determined.

4. Pay attention to environmental conditions such as steam, dust, smoke, etc. It blocks the optical system of the instrument and affects accurate temperature measurement.

5. If the thermometer is suddenly exposed to an ambient temperature difference of 20 ℃ or higher, it is allowed to adjust to the new ambient temperature within 20 minutes.

Is an infrared thermometer harmful to the human body
According to discussions and experiments conducted by experts in China, infrared thermometers receive radiation from the human body and are completely passive instruments that do not emit any electromagnetic waves and do not cause any harm to the human body.

The function of the red laser is only to assist in aiming. Please be careful not to aim the laser at the eyes or turn off the laser when measuring the human body.
