Common Faults and Troubleshooting Methods for Stereomicroscopes
Stereomicroscopes are widely used in industry, agriculture and scientific research institutions owing to their many advantages. Minor faults encountered during operation can be resolved on site according to actual conditions. Common faults are listed as follows:
① Blurry field of view or visible contaminants: Possible causes include dirt on the specimen, eyepiece surface, objective lens surface or work plate surface. The solution is to clean the specimen, eyepiece, objective lens and work plate surface as required.
② Misaligned dual images: The first possible cause is incorrect interpupillary distance adjustment; adjust the interpupillary distance to correct it. A second cause is improper diopter setting; redo the diopter adjustment. Another cause is mismatched magnification of the left and right eyepieces. Inspect the eyepieces and reinstall a pair of eyepieces with identical magnification.
③ Unclear image: It may be caused by contaminants on the objective lens surface; clean the objective lens.
④ Image blurring during zooming: This is usually due to incorrect diopter adjustment or improper focusing. Readjust the diopter and refocus.
⑤ Frequent bulb burnout or flickering light: Possible reasons include excessive mains voltage, an aging bulb or loose wiring connections. Carefully check the supply voltage and the tightness of electrical connections of the microscope. If the wiring is normal, replace the bulb.
