Comparison of advantages and disadvantages of series and parallel connection of DC regulated power supply

The working principle of DC stabilized power supply in series and parallel is to expand the switching voltage and current, achieve wide range regulation of voltage and current. In practical applications, both series stabilized power supply and parallel stabilized power supply have their advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages and disadvantages of series parallel DC stabilized power supply
The advantages of parallel stabilized power supply:
1. The control tube has overload self-protection function, which will not be damaged even if the output terminal is disconnected.

2. When the load changes, the voltage regulation performance is better.

3. Better adaptability to transient changes.

Disadvantages of parallel stabilized power supply:
1. Low efficiency, especially at low loads, almost all of the current is consumed by the current limiting resistor and control tube.

2. The adjustment range of output voltage is very small.

3. Stability is not easy to achieve.

The series stabilized power supply has the following characteristics:
1. It can achieve higher output voltage and current than a single voltage regulator.

2. Strong anti-interference ability, connecting multiple voltage regulators in series in the middle of the circuit can prevent noise and interference in the circuit.

3. Suitable for applications with high voltage and high current, such as high-power amplifiers, lasers, etc.

Comparison of advantages and disadvantages between series stabilized power supply and parallel stabilized power supply
1. Series stabilized power supply can achieve higher output voltage and current, suitable for high voltage and high current applications. However, connecting multiple voltage regulators in series results in high power loss, low efficiency, and ultimately limited output voltage and current.

2. Parallel stabilized power supply can achieve higher output current and is suitable for applications with high voltage and low current. However, in parallel with multiple voltage regulators, in order to achieve the same output current, it is necessary to output a portion of the current separately, so there is a problem of voltage imbalance.

In fact, these advantages of parallel DC voltage regulators can also be achieved through some special circuit strings. However, these inherent drawbacks of parallel stabilized power supplies are difficult to improve, so standard DC stabilized power supplies are now widely used in series.
