Composition and structure of clamp ammeter

Regarding the composition and structure of the clamp-type ammeter, the clamp-type ammeter is composed of a current transformer and an ammeter. The iron core of the transformer is made into a movable opening and is clamped. The movable part is connected to the handle 6, and the jaw is closed. There is an alternating magnetic flux passing through the iron core.

Composition and structure of clamp ammeter

A clamp-on ammeter consists of a current transformer and an ammeter.

As shown in the figure, the iron core of the transformer is made into a movable opening and is in the shape of a clamp, and the movable part is connected with the handle 6 .

When the handle is tightly held, the iron core of the current transformer is opened (shown by the dotted line in the figure), and the tested current-carrying wire 4 can be placed in the jaws, and the current-carrying wire becomes the primary winding coil of the current transformer.

The structure of the clamp ammeter

When the jaws are closed, an alternating magnetic flux passes through the iron core of the current transformer, and an induced current is generated in the secondary winding 5 of the transformer. From: Electrician World

The ammeter is connected to both ends of the secondary winding, the current indicated by its pointer is proportional to the working current of the clamped current-carrying wire, and the measured current value can be read directly from the dial.
