The power source in the hearts of engineering friends may be the AC/DC converter.


The word "power supply" is a bit general. Staying in a hotel on a business trip and can't find a 220V AC outlet, you might say the hotel doesn't provide "power". In this context, "power supply" means "AC input power" that can be used at the input of a powered device. When you are on a business trip and you find that your laptop does not have a "power adapter", you will get used to saying that you have a computer but no "power supply".


If someone asks what your occupation is, and you say that you are in the field of "power supply" or answer that you are in the field of "switching power supply", the other party may immediately think that your occupation is very ordinary and not high-tech. I did a search to find an official definition of a switching power supply. In my understanding, switching power supply is to realize the conversion of electric energy by turning on and off the switching tube. Transformation of electrical energy includes:


1, AC/DC. Converts AC to DC, usually 220V, two-phase AC or 380V, three-phase AC from the grid to DC. The AC input of low-power AC/DC is 220V, and the AC input of high-power is 380V. 2. DC/DC. Converting DC to DC, such as converting high voltage and small current to low voltage and high current, may be called DC/DC converter, secondary power supply, module power supply, on-board power supply, etc. depending on the application industry and occasion.


3. DC/AC. Converting DC to AC, depending on the application industry and occasion, may be called UPS, inverter, grid-connected inverter, motor controller, etc.


4. AC/AC. To convert AC to AC, the usual product form is a frequency converter, which is used for motor control.


The conversion of the above four kinds of electric energy has subdivided into many industries!


In the industry market corresponding to the two directions of AC/DC and DC/DC, people in the industry call it "switching power supply". The specific industry has relatively high-end primary power supply (also called communication power supply, but the meaning of communication power supply seems to be broader ), generally refers to the 48V power supply for the telecommunications room, secondary power supply, custom power supply, power supply, computer power supply, power adapter for notebook computers and other electrical equipment, mobile phone charger power supply, charging pile power supply, car charger (OBC, on-board charger), car DC/DC converter, lighting power supply (also can be divided into LED power supply, electronic ballast, HID power supply), etc. For the industry market of DC/AC and AC/AC, people generally say that they are doing UPS, doing photovoltaics (converting direct current to alternating current according to photovoltaic panels), doing energy storage, doing frequency converters, and doing motor control. device.
