Detailed explanation of tin eating steps for electric soldering iron tip

1. Grinding or wiping

The sanding or rubbing requirements for regular heads and longevity heads are different.
(1) Ordinary head: first use sandpaper to grind or file it, the length of grinding is slightly longer than the height of the slope, be careful until the plane is clean and smooth. Then, wipe off with a clean, dry cloth.

(2) Longevity head: Do not sand or file, only wipe with a clean, dry cloth.

2. Eat tin
This step is to let the soldering iron tip of the electric soldering iron eat tin, prepare a small box of rosin (although the solder wire contains rosin, but the amount is too small, it is not easy to eat tin), connect the power plug, wait for a while and the soldering iron tip will heat up , Use the tip of the soldering iron to touch the rosin to estimate the temperature.

If the rosin is just able to melt, it means that the temperature is low; if the rosin emits white smoke and the soldering iron hair is purple, it means that the temperature is too high; only when the rosin melts quickly and does not smoke a lot, the temperature is the best.

When the temperature of the soldering iron tip reaches the optimum level, evenly dip the soldering iron tip with rosin.

The soldering iron dipped in rosin should quickly melt the solder wire on the soldering iron frame to make it a large solder point (add a little rosin), and the soldering iron tip is immersed and rotated repeatedly until the polished part of the soldering iron tip is evenly eaten tin.

3. Aging
After the soldering iron tip eats tin, the soldering iron should be aged.

Aging is to temporarily not use the soldering iron for soldering, let it continue to be energized and heated for a while, then unplug the power cord, place it on the soldering iron stand to let it cool naturally.

Aging can prolong the life of soldering iron tips and cores, especially for new soldering iron tips and cores. After eating tin and aged soldering iron, it can be used normally in the future.

For a normally used electric soldering iron, before a new round of energized welding, it is necessary to check whether the soldering iron tip is "burned" or "port is incomplete".

"Burn to death" means that the tin eating part of the soldering iron tip has been oxidized and turned into a burnt black head, no longer dipped in tin or the ability to dip in tin is very poor; "port incomplete" means that the working surface is deformed or cracked.

When using an electric soldering iron for soldering operations, if these two situations occur, it is necessary to re-solder the tip of the soldering iron.
