Differences Between Infrared Rangefinder and Laser Rangefinder

Principle of infrared rangefinder
Infrared rangefinder, as a precise measuring tool, has been widely used in various fields. Distance measuring instruments can be divided into ultrasonic distance measuring instruments, infrared distance measuring instruments, and laser distance measuring instruments. The infrared rangefinder referred to is a laser infrared rangefinder, also known as a laser rangefinder. Infrared rangefinder - an instrument that uses modulated infrared light for precise distance measurement, with a range of generally 1-5 kilometers.

It utilizes the principle of non diffusion during infrared propagation. Because the refractive index of infrared rays is very small when passing through other substances, long-distance rangefinders will consider infrared rays, and the propagation of infrared rays takes time. When infrared rays are emitted from the rangefinder, they are reflected back by the reflector and received by the rangefinder. Based on the time from emission to reception of infrared rays and the propagation speed of infrared rays, the distance can be calculated. Therefore, the industry is called laser infrared photoelectric rangefinder, and its magnetic steel is a special strong magnetic permanent magnetic steel.

The modulation signal frequency f generated by the main oscillator (i.e. the main oscillator) is amplified and applied to a GaAs light-emitting tube. It is modulated by current to emit infrared modulated light, which is then emitted from the transmitting optical system to the mirror station. After reflection, the return light is received by the receiving optical system and reaches the silicon photodiode. After photoelectric conversion, a high-frequency ranging signal is obtained.

In automated infrared rangefinders, logic instruction circuits are set up for program control. In recent years, novel rangefinders have been developed using microprocessor systems, which can not only complete the program control mentioned above, but also develop various other automatic testing functions, including various methods of ranging, calculation, and self testing, making it very convenient to use.

Principle of laser rangefinder
Laser rangefinder is an instrument that uses a certain parameter of modulated laser to measure the distance to a target. The measurement range of the laser rangefinder is 3.5 to 5000 meters.

According to the distance measurement method, it can be divided into phase rangefinder and pulse rangefinder. Pulse laser rangefinder emits a beam or a sequence of brief pulse laser beams towards the target during operation, and the laser beam reflected by the target is received by the photoelectric element. The timer measures the time from emission to reception of the laser beam and calculates the distance from the observer to the target. The phase method laser rangefinder detects distance by detecting the phase difference that occurs when the emitted light and reflected light propagate in space. Laser rangefinder is lightweight, small in size, easy to operate, fast and accurate, with an error of only one-fifth to one hundredth of other optical rangefinders. In the figure on the right, typical phase and pulse rangefinders are shown.

A laser rangefinder is an instrument that accurately measures the distance to a target by modulating a certain parameter of the laser. A pulse laser rangefinder emits a beam or a sequence of brief pulse laser beams towards a target during operation. The laser beam reflected by the target is received by a photoelectric element, and a timer measures the time from emission to reception of the laser beam to calculate the distance from the rangefinder to the target.
