Essential Considerations When Choosing a Gas Detector

Have you paid attention to the selection of gas detectors? How to choose based on the environment? How to choose based on space? How to choose based on gas? Regardless of the reasons we choose, we must pay attention to the following points:

1. Correction requirements
Correction method, duration, and ease of use. There are two calibration methods - laboratory calibration and on-site calibration. On site calibration involves exhaling the oxygen sensor, and the instrument's oxygen reading must decrease and an alarm must be triggered.

2. Reliability
The longer the lifespan of the gas detector sensor, the better. Generally speaking, the lifespan of the sensor is 2 years less, while that of the combustible gas sensor is 2-5 years. The longer the average error time, the better. What are the accuracy and precision, and the smaller the error value, the better. The product warranty period is generally 2 years.

3. Applicability
Professional personnel from the enterprise and experienced on-site supervisors or employees should identify and evaluate the hazardous gases at the confined space operation site to determine whether the selected detector's sensor meets the usage requirements.

4. Stability
What are the zero offset and full offset values of the detector, the smaller the better.

5. Convenience
Lightweight, small in size, easy and comfortable to wear, easy to maintain and repair.

6. Recognizability
Numerical or pointer type gas detector. Generally speaking, numerical models have the advantages of easy readability and fewer false positives. Is the display area large enough with background lighting and large fonts for easy reading and understanding. Is the alarm sound loud enough to distinguish it from background noise. Generally applicable with an efficiency of 90dB (A) or above. Can the flashing alarm light be identified from various angles. Can the signal be continuously displayed as the gas concentration changes, and the alarm will be stopped only after confirmation or countermeasures are taken.
