Guidelines for Safe Multimeter Capacitance Measurement

Before the measurement, the power must be cut off and discharged. The method of discharging is to find a metal thing such as a screwdriver, hold the exposed part of the metal on the insulating handle and catch the two feet of the measured capacitor. Use a digital multimeter to measure the capacitance. Locate the capacitor block, then put the two pins of the capacitor into the capacitance measurement socket after the capacitor is discharged, and wait for the reading on the LCD screen to stabilize. The actual value is the capacity of the side capacitor. If you want to measure the leakage, you can use the resistance of the pointer multimeter. When measuring, the small-capacity multimeter can be placed in RX1K or RX100. When measuring the display on the dial, when the two test leads are connected to the two feet of the capacitor, the pointer will deflect clockwise, and then the capacitor will be fully charged. When the current flows, the hands will return to infinity counterclockwise. The larger the angle of the hands, the larger the capacity. During the deflection process, the hands should swing at a constant speed so that they can return to infinity. It initially shows that the capacitor has no leakage. A position where the needle suddenly slows down or does not return, indicating that the capacitor is leaking in a certain section. If it shows infinity at the end, it means that there is no leakage. Or observe the characteristics on the oscilloscope, which is impossible for ordinary people. There is also a capacitor that has a withstand voltage value. The withstand voltage value of the electrolytic capacitor is generally written on it. Some ceramic capacitors are not marked on the top and must be paid attention to when selecting.
