How do we use a multimeter to detect the quality of electrolytic capacitors

Step 1: First, adjust the multimeter to the appropriate gear of the ohm gear. Generally, capacitors with a capacity below 1UF are detected with the "20k" gear, and capacitors within 1UF-100UF are detected with the "2"K gear. Capacitors with a capacity greater than 100UF Use "200" to check.

Step 2: Then connect the two test leads of the multimeter to both ends of the capacitor (the red test lead is connected to the positive pole of the capacitor, and the black test lead is connected to the negative pole of the capacitor). If the displayed value gradually increases from 000, the overflow symbol 1 will be displayed at the end. , indicating that the capacitor is normal; if the multimeter always displays 000, it means that the capacitor has an internal short circuit; if it finally displays 1, it may be a short circuit between the electrodes inside the capacitor.

Capacitors with a commonly used capacity between 0.47uF and 2200uF can directly use the MF47 meter to detect their capacity and quality. specific method:

Fully discharge the capacitor, connect the black test lead to the positive pole of the capacitor, and the red test lead to the negative pole of the capacitor, and judge whether the capacitor is damaged by the maximum number of swings.

Note: The black pen is connected to the positive pole of the capacitor, and the red pen is negative. If it is connected incorrectly, the data may be inaccurate. It needs to be re-discharged every time the capacitance is measured.

Conclusion: If the needle does not move or slightly moves, it proves that the capacitor is invalid. If the needle returns too slowly, the capacitor may be leaking or the gear of the multimeter is used incorrectly. If the needle gradually rises after returning, the capacitor has a slight leakage or poor quality. .
