How do you measure leakage with a multimeter?

Before using a multimeter to detect leakage in the distribution cabinet or distribution box, we should first look at what fault phenomena occur in the distribution box, what are the obvious characteristics; secondly, from the surface to observe whether there is any intuitive failure point, and then proceed to the next step of inspection.

1. first disconnect the main disconnect switch of our power inlet, turn off the electrical load of all loads, such as unplugging the refrigerator, disconnecting the water pump switch, etc..

2. Put the digital multimeter on the 200M ohms gear, a pen on the load side of one of the two wires, the other pen touching the wall, preferably touching the earth wire or temporary earth wire. Wait for the multimeter on the display of the number of stable, read out the main line insulation resistance value, if the insulation resistance value is less than 0.5 megohm, then the main line problem, if the insulation resistance in the 0.5 megohm more than that can be ruled out is the main line problem. Measure another wire in the same way, also check the value to see if the main line is a problem.

3. Check the insulation resistance value of the sub-circuit and each electrical appliance, also use the same method to test one by one, until you find the fault point.

Operation Precautions
1. when using the 200M block of the multimeter ohmmeter, pay attention to the metal parts of the pen can not be touched with your hand during the measurement, which will make the reading inaccurate.

2. When measuring each electric equipment, pay attention to the discharge first, in order to prevent the capacitive current in the electric equipment from hurting people.

This method is a safer way to find faults in the absence of electricity. This method is also applicable to power users and plant leakage of the search, but in the search, not only to disconnect the power supply into the line, but also should be disconnected from the zero line, to avoid electrocution accidents.
