How is a UV light meter different from a light meter?

Both UV illuminometer and lux meter are instruments for measuring light intensity, but UV illuminometer measures the intensity of ultraviolet rays, while lux meter measures the light intensity of visible light. It seems that the name is similar, but the function is very different.

UV illuminance meter is also called ultraviolet radiation meter, and the main units are mW/cm2 or uW/cm2. According to the band of ultraviolet rays, it can be divided into UVA, UVB, UVC, etc., and ultraviolet rays of different bands are used in different occasions. For example, ultraviolet rays in the UVC band are mainly used for sterilization, ultraviolet rays in the UVB band are used for skin disease treatment, and ultraviolet rays in the UVA band are used for curing. Therefore, when choosing a UV illuminance meter, it should also be selected according to the wavelength band of the light source.

The illuminance meter is an instrument used to measure luminosity and brightness. The unit is Lux. It is mainly used in public places lighting illuminance detection, lighting production industry, photography industry, stage lighting layout and other places.

Measuring principle of lux meter
Photovoltaic cells are photoelectric components that directly convert light energy into electrical energy. When the light hits the surface of the selenium photovoltaic cell, the incident light passes through the metal thin film 4 and reaches the interface between the semiconductor selenium layer 2 and the metal thin film 4, generating a photoelectric effect on the interface. The magnitude of the generated photocurrent has a certain proportional relationship with the illuminance on the light-receiving surface of the photocell. At this time, if an external circuit is connected, a current will flow, and the current value will be indicated on the microammeter with lux (Lx) as the scale. The magnitude of the photocurrent depends on the intensity of the incident light. The illuminance meter has a shifting device, so it can measure high illuminance or low illuminance. Types of illuminance meters:

1. Visual illuminance meter: inconvenient to use, low accuracy, rarely used

2. Photoelectric illuminance meter: commonly used selenium photocell illuminance meter and silicon photocell illuminance meter
