How many watts of power is appropriate for a household soldering iron to use?

The power of the electric soldering iron has little relationship with the temperature. The greater the power, the larger the solder joints that can be welded. Some welding parts that conduct heat quickly require a high-power soldering iron. According to the formula: heat = power * time, the greater the power, the better. It is said that the shorter the time it takes for the weldment to reach equal heat, it has nothing to do with the setting temperature of the soldering iron. At present, electric soldering irons are mainly divided into two types: external heating type and internal heating type. Under these two categories, there are many specifications of soldering irons according to different powers. For the external heating type, the higher the power, the higher the temperature of the soldering iron tip, while the power of the internal heating type is different from that of the external heating type.

There are two types of soldering irons: internal heating type and external heating type. Internally heated soldering irons mainly include 20, 30, 35, 45, 50, and 75W. In addition to all the wattages of internal heating soldering irons, external heating soldering irons also have 100, 150, 300W, etc. Choice between internal heating and external heating: Under the same wattage, the temperature of the internal heating soldering iron is higher than that of the external heating soldering iron.

The soldering iron is the most commonly used welding tool in wire harness related welding operations. Its function is to convert electrical energy into thermal energy to heat and weld the soldering point. A large part of its success depends on how well it is controlled. Therefore, from a certain perspective, the use of the soldering iron relies on a sense of technique.

Generally speaking, the choice of soldering iron is the choice of soldering iron power. The power of the soldering iron should be determined by the size of the solder joint. The larger the solder joint area, the faster the heat dissipation of the solder joint. Therefore, the power of the soldering iron should also be larger.

30W: Suitable for mobile phones, MP3 players, and other products with small solder joints

40W: Suitable for Xiaobawang game controller, handheld game console, etc.

60W: Suitable for TVs, stereos, keyboards, tape recorders, radios, electric fans, game joysticks and other home appliances. It also covers all electrical appliances suitable for 30W and 40W. Can be used to repair all household appliances.

Some high-current solder joints require more tin. If the power is too small, the heat will dissipate too quickly, and the solder joints will be difficult to tin or appear in a semi-liquid state. In this case, it is easy to produce gray tin and weak soldering. The disadvantages of high-power soldering irons are that they have a short lifespan, cannot be powered on for a long time, are relatively troublesome to maintain, and can easily burn components and boards if they are not skilled in the art. So choose a soldering iron with appropriate power according to your requirements.
