How serious is the threat of electromagnetic radiation?

According to experts, the highest electromagnetic radiation emissions are caused by the radon gas present in the building materials or cement used to build houses. Other obvious sources of radiation are sunlight and water. Before ending your summer vacation in the Mediterranean or letting tap water flow out, it is important to pay attention to two types of electromagnetic radiation: ionizing and non ionizing.

The sources of ionizing radiation include X-rays commonly used in medical imaging and cancer treatment. This type of radiation is a danger that we should all try to avoid as much as possible. However, the most controversial aspect of electromagnetic radiation lies in non ionizing radiation types. Examples of non ionizing radiation sources include televisions, remote controls, wireless communication equipment, and microwaves. This is because it is generally believed that this type of radiation is not strong enough to release electrons from matter, and therefore is unlikely to cause cancer or damage DNA. Moreover, there is no strong scientific evidence to prove it.

However, this non ionizing radiation can also have some temporary adverse effects on the brain and sensory system, which may affect our memory and reaction function, and lead to symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, and insufficient sleep.

The base stations located on rooftops and adjacent residential areas have also raised strong concerns about health issues. However, due to the fact that the frequency of ionizing radiation is six times higher than that of non ionizing radiation emitted from the base station, it should not cause too much harm and can finally help us breathe a sigh of relief. Furthermore, the base station antenna has high directionality, which means that the antenna design will not radiate backwards or downwards; Therefore, residents living under the roof are very safe. However, more importantly, the base station must be installed at a safe distance that keeps residents and buildings away from radiation emission areas. In rural areas, it should be easy to achieve such safety standards; But in urban areas, where honeycomb networks are small in scale and have dense base station installations, I am not sure what kind of protection everyone will have.

Until more reliable scientific evidence is presented and widely accepted, the impact of mobile phones on health has always been a hot topic. According to researchers, the radiation of mobile phones manifests in two aspects: thermal effects and non thermal effects. The thermal effect refers to the absorption of radiation by the human body and its conversion into thermal energy, resulting in an increase in body temperature. This can usually be regulated by blood circulation. The temperature increase caused by using a mobile phone is only about 0.1 ℃, which is quite insignificant. Our bodies are generally able to easily self regulate. Furthermore, based on the thermal effects of radiation on the brain, adults may be 50% less affected than children.

Can using mobile phones cause cancer? Due to the low level of non ionizing radiation emitted by mobile phones, it is unlikely to damage DNA, and therefore cancer cells cannot develop. However, although countries such as Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan have conducted multiple studies on this issue, there is still no strong evidence to refute it.

In today's modern lifestyle, I believe it is impossible to completely eliminate electromagnetic radiation from daily life. However, rational use seems to be the best way to minimize any potential harmful effects.
