How to avoid damaging the objective lens during microscope installation

Microscopes are precision optical and mechanical instruments that are widely used. Generally, the main body of a microscope is already installed and prepared before leaving the factory. However, due to transportation and storage needs, important optical components such as eyepieces, objective lenses, photography devices, etc. are stored in specialized storage equipment. Only when using a microscope, it is necessary to remove the eyepiece, objective lens, etc. and perform corresponding installation operations. After use, it is also necessary to remove the eyepiece, objective lens and other components and put them back in their original place for storage.

The above are the usage guidelines that most microscopes follow. It can be seen from this that the installation and disassembly of the optical components of the microscope are important matters for the use of the microscope. So let's take a metallographic microscope as an example to explain the installation process of the eyepiece and objective lens.

1. Installation of microscope eyepiece
The installation process of the eyepiece is not complicated, but it is important to be careful not to scratch or wear the lens during operation. First, remove the dust cover from the eyepiece cylinder, and then insert the selected eyepiece from the upper end of the eyepiece cylinder. If you want to replace a different eyepiece, follow the above steps to replace the eyepiece in the eyepiece cylinder. After installing the eyepiece, pay attention to checking the overlap between the eyepiece and the supporting surface of the eyepiece cylinder.

2. Installation of microscope objectives
Most microscopes and objective lenses are installed on objective lens converters. During the installation process, it is also important to handle with care to avoid scratches and wear on the objective lens. Firstly, turn the rough handwheel to raise the loading platform. Here, it is necessary to observe the distance between the stage and the objective lens converter when it is raised, and maintain a sufficient distance. Then screw the objective lens into the screw holes of the objective lens converter in a certain order. In general, the order of objective lenses should be low magnification, medium magnification, and high magnification, and the order cannot be changed arbitrarily. Be careful not to let go at this time to prevent the objective lens from falling. Rotate the thread, tighten the objective lens, and pay attention to maintaining the appropriate tightness of the objective lens. Finally, rotate the converter and turn the objective lens to the appropriate position until a slight "click" sound is heard, indicating that the converter is fixed and can work.

The installation process of the eyepiece and objective lens has been basically introduced. Because microscopes are precision optical instruments, caution must be exercised throughout the entire process to prevent lens wear and tear. Attention should also be paid to details during operation, such as not pulling the objective lens to push the converter, in order to avoid damaging the threads. Only by following the prescribed procedures can the microscope be effectively protected.
