How to determine an electric soldering iron's resistance

Electric soldering iron is an essential tool for electronic production and electrical maintenance. Its main purpose is to weld components and wires. According to the mechanical structure, it can be divided into internal heat type electric soldering iron and external heat type electric soldering iron. Tin-type soldering irons are divided into high-power soldering irons and low-power soldering irons according to different uses.

The soldering iron test includes three parts: ground resistance test (cold/hot state), leakage voltage test and leakage current test.

1. Grounding resistance test of electric soldering iron in cooling state:
In the case of no electricity, connect one end of the multimeter pen to the ground end of the power plug, and the other end to the tip of the electric soldering iron to test the data;

2. Grounding resistance test of electric soldering iron under heating state:
Plug in the power supply, turn on the electric soldering iron, touch one end of the multimeter pen to the ground terminal of the power strip, and the other end to the test board in contact with the electric soldering iron, and measure the result;

3. The leakage voltage test and leakage current test of the electric soldering iron are similar to the resistance test method. It should be noted that the position of the multimeter pen line needs to be adjusted when the multimeter needs to switch gears or measure the current.

How long does a soldering iron heat up
The power of a 60w soldering iron is very high, but the soldering iron generally needs to be preheated for 3-5 minutes. Although you may see it getting hot and smoking, it may not have reached the melting point of solder. The warm-up time of the soldering iron is also related to the use environment. The warm-up time will be longer in an environment with high wind and low temperature. It is recommended to take some protective measures for the soldering iron (such as adding a sleeve) to ensure that the soldering iron can last. Gather heat to reach a certain high temperature.

The new electric soldering iron will have a little smoke and peculiar smell when used for the first time. There is a layer of anti-oxidation paint on the soldering iron, which should be wiped off gently before use. For the first use, the solder should be fully fed to the tip of the soldering iron, so that it can fully absorb the tin and then solder.
