Ordinary electric pen: For electrician maintenance and troubleshooting in the past, a single electric pen was used all over the world. The ordinary electric pen distinguishes the live wire and the neutral wire. The live wire, the electric pen does not light up, it is the neutral wire


Digital electric pen: Since the digital electric pen has been used, it is rarely used for ordinary electric pens. For digital electric pens, it has more functions, such as checking broken wires without electricity, distinguishing neutral wires and live wires, distinguishing the positive and negative poles of DC batteries, and judging whether the wires are short-circuited. It is ok, so the ordinary electric pen is gradually eliminated. If you use a digital electric pen to distinguish the live wire and the neutral wire, you can directly measure the live wire and the neutral wire with the electric pen, and observe the voltage of the digital electric pen. If the maximum voltage displayed is 220V, it proves that it is the live wire. If the maximum voltage displayed is 12V or 36V, it proves to be the neutral line

When the electric pen measures the live wire, the sound is relatively rapid, and when the neutral wire is measured, the sound is relatively slow


The method of distinguishing live wire and neutral wire by multimeter


For the multimeter, there will be an AC voltage gear. For the AC voltage gear, the voltage of the AC can be measured. When measuring the voltage, use the red and black test leads and place them on the live wire and the neutral wire respectively, and its voltage will be displayed. But when measuring the voltage, Put the multimeter in the appropriate gear, for example, when measuring the household voltage of 220V and 380V, put the multimeter in the gear of AC voltage 700V


For the AC voltage range, not only the voltage can be measured, but also the live wire and the neutral wire can be distinguished. It’s just that many people don’t know that the multimeter distinguishes the live wire and the neutral wire. Put the multimeter on the AC voltage position, put the black test lead aside, use the red test lead to measure the live wire and the neutral wire respectively, and observe the numbers on the multimeter. The larger number is the live wire. The smaller number is the zero line. If you feel that the number is not obvious, you can adjust the gear to a smaller value, so that the number will be more obvious.


For the AC voltage range of the multimeter, not only can you measure the voltage, distinguish the live wire and the neutral wire, but you can also find the breakpoint inside the wire.
