How to prolong the service life of the soldering iron

For home appliance maintenance personnel and electronics enthusiasts, an electric soldering iron is one of the essential welding tools in maintenance work, and its quality directly affects the efficiency of maintenance work. We know that in daily maintenance work, electric soldering irons are often in a state of long-term power on operation. Due to overheating, the soldering iron tip is severely oxidized, resulting in the soldering iron tip not being soldered, making welding difficult and reducing work efficiency. Once the soldering iron tip is severely oxidized, it is difficult to tin it using any method. Although various countermeasures have been introduced in newspapers, they cannot completely solve the problem. Sometimes, although it is temporarily resolved, the soldering iron tip still oxidizes severely after a while. For this reason, the author has reviewed the information and hopes to find a method to extend the service life of the soldering iron. Firstly, the author attempted to install a diode and switch on the power supply of the soldering iron according to the method introduced in the newspaper. The circuit is shown in Figure 1. When the soldering iron is powered on, the switch in Figure 1 is in the normally open position. Due to the connection of the diode, the soldering iron operates in a half wave rectification state, with a power of about half of its usual level. This long-term power on operation will not cause overheating and oxidation of the soldering iron tip. When working, as long as the switch is pressed, the soldering iron will work at its rated power, and its temperature will quickly rise for easy soldering.

When using for the first time, it is necessary to determine a critical welding point, which refers to the temperature at which the soldering iron can melt the solder. First, lower the voltage and then slowly increase it. When the soldering iron is just enough to melt the solder wire, make a mark on the electronic speed controller panel. In the future, as long as it is adjusted to that position, it can be directly soldered, which is much more convenient. If the temperature is too low to weld, turn the adjustment knob to the right (some solder has a higher melting point) and increase the voltage: this will work normally. After welding, remember to turn the knob back to the welding critical marking point. The modified soldering iron using this method has been tested and found that the tip of the turtle soldering iron will not overheat or oxidize even when powered on for a long time, basically the same as a constant temperature soldering iron. What's even more gratifying is that soldering can be done at any time. You don't have to wait slowly, and you don't have to worry about the soldering iron tip overheating and oxidizing for a long time, which will affect the soldering work. The disadvantage is that it cannot display the temperature, but the advantage is that adjusting the temperature is simple and the cost is relatively low; In order to adjust the voltage more intuitively, a small voltmeter is added on top of the original one to make this simple temperature regulating soldering iron more convenient to adjust,
