How to use a multimeter for the testing of memory chips

There are 64 data pins on the motherboard and memory, D0-D63. In order to protect the data pins of the memory, a resistor (10 ohms) with a different resistance value is added to all 64 data pins of D0-D63 to limit the current. The main principle of the tester is to repeatedly test each data bit pin of the memory chip with a program to see if there are any broken or short circuited data bit pins, as well as the clock pin and address pin of the chip.

So when using a multimeter to test a chip, a tester can also be used to measure it. As long as the red pen is connected to ground (1 pin) and the black pen is used to measure the resistance of the negative resistance, it is the resistance value of the memory chip data bit to determine which chip is faulty. Normally, the resistance value of each data bit is the same. But it is still not as intuitive as a tester, and this method can measure the quality of DDR memory chips.

According to the user manual, the measured memory is 2A and 2B, which means single group and double group. But there are 8 16 bit chips, which is equivalent to two sets, and 16 8-bit chips are also equivalent to two sets.

2A is the first group, and 2B is the second group.
During measurement, the data pins of each chip in each group will be cyclically tested. It is generally good if it has been tested 3-5 times without any damage. A good chip is PASS. A faulty chip displays faulty data bit pins.

1. Unable to perform startup jump test, usually including chip short circuit and PCB board short circuit. The solution is to remove the chip and replace it with a good PCB board to test the quality of the chip and see what the problem is.

2. The memory tester does not test SPD chips, SPD chips are optional

3. If the golden finger burns, it cannot be tested. The chip must be removed and replaced with a good PCB board to test its quality
