When a new soldering iron is used for the first time, when it is heated to the point where it can melt the solder wire, the solder wire should be placed on the tip of the soldering iron to melt the solder on the surface of the tip, to prevent the tip from oxidizing and not soldering. You can also apply a small amount of solder paste or rosin. After processing in this way, the soldering iron tip is easily tinned and there will be no situation where the "solder ball" falls off in a flash. Secondly, the area to be welded needs to undergo oxidation removal treatment first, which involves scraping off the oxide layer on the surface to be welded with a small knife, applying a small amount of solder paste or rosin, and then placing the solder wire and soldering iron tip on the welding area at the same time. After melting a small amount of solder wire, the welding can be done very well.

There are two types of materials for soldering iron tips, ordinary tips use copper as the substrate; Changshou head is a type of soldering iron head that has been electroplated with pure iron or nickel on the surface of copper. Its lifespan is about twenty times longer than ordinary heads and it is not easily deformed. The steps for soldering iron tips are as follows.


① Polish or wipe. Ordinary heads can first be sanded or filed with a file, with a length slightly longer than the height of the slope. It is important to be careful and meticulous until the surface is clean and smooth. Then use a clean, dry cloth to wipe it clean. If it is a longevity head, it cannot be polished or filed, and can only be wiped clean with a clean, dry cloth.


② Eat tin. Prepare a small box of rosin (although the solder wire contains rosin, the amount is too small to eat tin), connect the power plug, wait for a moment, and the soldering iron tip will heat up. Use the soldering iron tip to dip into the rosin to estimate the temperature. Just being able to melt rosin indicates that the temperature is still low; Rosin emits white smoke and the hair of the soldering iron is severely purple, indicating that the temperature is too high; Only when rosin can melt quickly and not emit a large amount of smoke, the temperature is optimal. When the temperature of the soldering iron tip reaches its optimum, evenly dip the tip in rosin. A soldering iron dipped in rosin should quickly melt the solder wire on the soldering iron holder to form a large solder dot (with a small amount of rosin added). The soldering iron tip should be repeatedly immersed and rotated until the polished part of the soldering iron tip is evenly coated with solder.


③ Aging. After the soldering iron tip has been tinned, it should be aged for a while. Aging means temporarily not using a soldering iron for soldering, allowing it to continue heating with electricity for a while, then unplugging the power cord and placing it on a soldering iron holder for natural cooling. Aging can extend the service life of soldering iron tips and cores, especially for newly replaced soldering iron tips and cores. After eating tin and aging soldering iron, it can be used normally in the future.


If the soldering iron is used normally, before conducting a new round of power on soldering, the soldering iron tip should also be checked for phenomena such as "burning" or "port damage". Burn to death "refers to the situation where the soldering iron tip has oxidized and turned into a blackhead, no longer dipping in tin or having poor ability to dip in tin; Port incomplete "refers to the deformation or cracking of the working surface. Both of these situations require re tinning the soldering iron tip.
