How to use a soldering iron for the first time
When a new electric soldering iron is used for the first time, when it is heated until it can melt the solder wire, it is necessary to put the solder wire on the tip of the soldering iron to let the solder melt on the surface of the tip to prevent the tip from being oxidized and not tinned. A little solder paste or rosin can also be applied. After this treatment, the tip of the soldering iron is easy to tin, and the "solder ball" will not fall off in a flash. Secondly, the part to be welded must first be deoxidized, that is, use a knife to scrape off the oxide layer on the surface to be welded, apply a little solder paste or rosin, and then put the solder wire and soldering iron tip on the welding part at the same time, and melt a little solder wire After that, it can be welded very well.
There are two kinds of materials for the soldering iron tip. The common tip uses copper as the substrate; the longevity tip electroplates the soldering iron tip, that is, the surface of the copper is plated with pure iron or nickel, and its service life is about 20 times longer than that of the ordinary tip. out of shape. The steps of soldering iron tip eating tin are as follows.
① Grinding or wiping. Ordinary heads can be polished with sandpaper or filed with a file first. The length of grinding is slightly longer than the height of the inclined surface. Be careful until the surface is clean and smooth. Then wipe off with a clean, dry cloth. If it is a longevity head, it cannot be polished or filed, and can only be wiped off with a clean, dry cloth.
②Eat tin. Prepare a small box of rosin (although the solder wire contains rosin, but the amount is too small, it is not easy to eat tin), connect the power plug, wait for a while and the tip of the soldering iron will heat up, use the tip of the soldering iron to touch the rosin to estimate the temperature. If the rosin can just be melted, it means that the temperature is still low; if the rosin emits white smoke and the soldering iron turns purple, it means that the temperature is too high; only when the rosin can melt quickly and does not smoke a lot, the temperature is the best. When the temperature of the soldering iron tip reaches the optimum level, evenly dip the soldering iron tip with rosin. The soldering iron dipped in rosin should quickly melt the solder wire on the soldering iron frame to make it a large solder point (add a little rosin), and the soldering iron tip is immersed and rotated repeatedly until the polished part of the soldering iron tip is evenly eaten tin.
③Aging. After the soldering iron tip eats tin, the soldering iron should be aged. Aging is to temporarily stop using a soldering iron for soldering, let it continue to be energized and heated for a while, then unplug the power cord, and place it on a soldering iron stand to allow it to cool naturally. Aging can prolong the service life of soldering iron tips and cores, especially new ones. After eating tin and aged soldering iron, it can be used normally in the future.
If it is an electric soldering iron in normal use, before a new round of energized welding, you should also check whether the soldering iron tip is "burned" or "port is incomplete". "Burn to death" means that the tin eating part of the soldering iron tip has been oxidized and turned into a burnt black head, no longer dipped in tin or the ability to dip in tin is very poor; "port incomplete" means that the working surface is deformed or cracked. Both of these situations require re-tinning the tip of the soldering iron.
