How to use pH composite electrodes correctly?
(1) There should be no bubbles at the front of the bubble, and if there are any bubbles, they should be forcefully thrown away.
(2) After the electrode is taken out of the soaking bottle, it should be shaken and dried in deionized water. Do not wipe the bulb with a paper towel. Otherwise, because the Electrostatic induction charge is transferred to the glass film, the time of potential stability will be prolonged. The better way is to use the measured solution to wash the electrode.
(3) After inserting the pH composite electrode into the measured solution, it should be stirred and shaken a few times before standing still, which will accelerate the electrode's response. Especially when using plastic shell pH composite electrodes, stirring and shaking are more severe because there is a small cavity between the ball bubble and the plastic shell. After the electrode is immersed in the solution, sometimes the gas in the cavity cannot be eliminated in time, resulting in bubbles, which leads to poor contact between the ball bubble or liquid interface and the solution. Therefore, strong stirring and shaking are necessary to eliminate bubbles.
(4) After testing in a viscous sample, the electrode must be repeatedly rinsed with deionized water multiple times to remove the sample adhering to the glass film. Sometimes it is necessary to first wash the sample with other reagents, then wash the solvent with water, and immerse it in the soaking solution for activation.
(5) Avoid contact with strong acids, alkalis, or corrosive solutions. If testing such solutions, try to minimize immersion time and carefully clean them after use.
(6) Avoid using in dehydrating media such as anhydrous ethanol and concentrated sulfuric acid, which will damage the hydrated gel layer on the surface of the bulb.
(7) The shell material of the molded case pH composite electrode is polycarbonate plastic (PC) PC plastic which will dissolve in some solvents, such as carbon tetrachloride, Trichloroethylene, tetrahydrofuran, etc. If the above solvents are contained in the test, the electrode shell will be formed. At this time, the glass case pH composite electrode should be used instead.
