When the laser is used for distance measurement, it is usually divided into different types according to the length of distance measurement and the principle of distance measurement. There are usually three types of measurement principles: pulse method, phase method, and trigonometric method. Different measurement methods have different fields of application. The pulse method (including the time-of-flight method) emits a laser pulse from the laser source, and when the laser pulse encounters an object, it is reflected to the source. Measure the time interval between the laser emission moment and the receiving moment, and then divide it by the light beam to calculate the distance from the starting point to the target; the phase method emits a continuous pulse wave from the emission source, and calculates the phase difference between the emission wave and the reception wave. The phase method is usually used for close-range measurement, the measurement distance is from tens of centimeters to tens of meters, the measurement accuracy is usually up to millimeters, and the measurement time is relatively long.


Trigonometry is usually used for very close-range measurements, the measurement distance is usually tens of millimeters, the measurement accuracy can reach micron level, and the measurement time is very short.


The pulse method is usually used for long-distance and large-scale measurement, the measurement distance is from hundreds of meters to several kilometers, the measurement accuracy is usually in centimeters - decimeters, and the measurement time is short.
