Introduction to the Measurement of Liquid and Solid by Abbe Refractometer
(1) Determination of transparent and translucent liquids:
Add a clean dropper to the surface of the refracting prism with the measured liquid, cover the incoming prism, and lock it tightly with a handwheel. The liquid layer is required
Uniform, full of field of view, without bubbles. Open the sunshade, close the reflector, adjust the visibility of the eyepiece, and make the image of the crosshair clear. At this time, rotate the handwheel and find the position of the light dark boundary in the eyepiece field of view. Then, rotate the handwheel to make the boundary without any color. Fine adjust the handwheel to make the boundary located at the center of the crosshair. Then, rotate the condenser appropriately. The displayed value below the eyepiece field of view is the refractive index of the measured liquid.
(2) Abbe refractometer for measuring transparent solids:
There needs to be a flat polishing surface on the tested object. Open the light inlet prism, add 1-2 drops of bromonaphthalene to the polishing surface of the refracting prism, and wipe the polished surface of the tested object clean and place it on top to make good contact. At this point, it can be placed in the eyepiece

(3) Determination of semi transparent solids:
A flat polished surface is also required on the tested semi transparent solid. When measuring, the polished surface of the solid is coated with brominated naphthalene on the refractive prism, and the reflector is opened and the angle is adjusted using the reflected beam. The specific operation method is the same as above.
(4) Measure the concentration of sugar in sucrose:
The operation is the same as when measuring the refractive index of a liquid. At this point, the reading can be directly read from the upper half of the displayed value in the field of view, which is the percentage of sugar concentration in the sucrose solution
