The safety and reliability of the metal detector depends on the stability of the frequency of the electromagnetic transmitter, generally using the operating frequency from 80 to 800kHz. The lower the working frequency, the better the detection performance of iron; the higher the working frequency, the better the detection performance of high carbon steel. The sensitivity of the detector decreases with the increase of the detection range, and the size of the induction signal depends on the size and conductivity of the metal particles.


Due to current pulsation and current filtering, metal detectors have certain limitations on the conveying speed of detected items. If the delivery speed exceeds a reasonable range, the sensitivity of the detector will drop.


In order to ensure that the sensitivity does not drop, the appropriate metal detector must be selected to adapt to the corresponding detected product. Generally speaking, the detection range should be controlled to the minimum value as much as possible. For products with good high-frequency sensitivity, the size of the detector channel should match the product size. The adjustment of the detection sensitivity shall be determined with reference to the center of the detection coil, which has the lowest induction. The detection value of the product will change with the change of production conditions, such as changes in temperature, product size, humidity, etc., which can be adjusted and compensated through the control function


Balls are repeatable, have the smallest surface area, and are the most difficult for metal detectors to detect. Therefore, the spheroid can be used as a reference sample for detection sensitivity. For non-spherical metals, the detection sensitivity largely depends on the position of the metal. Different positions have different cross-sectional areas, and the detection effect is also different. For example, when passing longitudinally, iron is more sensitive; while high carbon steel and non-ferrous are less sensitive. When passing horizontally, iron is less sensitive, while high carbon steel and non-ferrous are more sensitive.


In the food industry, systems often use higher operating frequencies. For foods such as cheese, due to its inherent high-frequency induction performance, it will increase the response of high-frequency signals proportionally. Moist fatty or salty substances, such as bread, cheese, sausage, etc. have the same conductivity as metals. In this case, in order to prevent the system from giving false signals, the compensation signal must be adjusted to reduce the sensing sensitivity.


Metal detector function to divide:
1) Full metal detector: It can detect all metals such as iron, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, etc. The detection accuracy and sensitivity are relatively high, stable and reliable.


2) Ferrous metal detector: It can only detect ferrous metal, commonly known as needle detector. The detection accuracy and sensitivity are low, and it is easy to interfere.


3) Aluminum foil metal detector: It can only detect ferrous metals, but when detecting products with aluminum foil packaging, its detection accuracy and sensitivity are still high.

Metals are buried underground and detected through thick soil layers, which must be affected by geological structures.
