Microscope maintenance and troubleshooting

 

Biological microscope is a precision optical instrument commonly used in biology teaching experiments, which consists of two parts: mechanical system and optical system.


The mechanical system includes: the transmission part of the lens barrel, the rotating part of the objective lens, the stage, the conversion part of the pressing clip and the shutter, the rotating part of the mirror frame and the base, etc. The optical system includes: eyepiece, objective lens, condenser and reflector etc.


1. Maintenance and maintenance
(1) Overall maintenance: The biological microscope should be placed in a dry, cool, dust-free, and corrosion-free place. After use, wipe it clean immediately, cover it with a dustproof and breathable cover or put it in a box.


(2) Maintenance of the mechanical system: After use, wipe it off with a clean fine cloth, and regularly apply some neutral grease to the sliding parts. If there is serious pollution, it can be washed with gasoline and then dried. But avoid cleaning with alcohol or ether, because these reagents will corrode machinery and paint, causing damage.


(3) Maintenance of the optical system: After use, gently wipe the lens of the eyepiece and objective lens with a clean and soft silk cloth. When there are stains that cannot be wiped off, use long-fiber absorbent cotton or clean cotton cloth dipped in a little xylene or lens cleaning solution (3 parts alcohol: 1 part ether) to wipe. Then wipe dry with a clean soft silk cloth or blow dry with a blower. It should be noted that the cleaning solution must not penetrate into the inside of the objective lens, otherwise it will damage the objective lens. Condenser (XSP-13A, 16A type only) and reflector only need to be wiped clean after use.


2. Difficulty in rotating the objective lens converter or failure in positioning:
Difficulty turning the converter may be due to the set screw being too tight. Makes turning difficult and can damage parts. If it is too loose, the bearing marbles inside will fall off the track and squeeze together, which also makes it difficult to rotate; in addition, the marbles are likely to run outside, and the diameter of the marbles is only one millimeter, so it is easy to lose. The degree of tightness of the fixing screws is based on the fact that the converter can be easily rotated and there is no looseness in the vertical direction. After adjusting the fixing screw, the locking screw should be locked immediately. Otherwise, after the converter turns, problems will occur again.


3. The shutter positioning failure:
This may be caused by the fixing screw of the shutter being too loose, and the positioning marble escapes from the positioning hole. Just put the marble back into the positioning hole and tighten the set screw. If it is difficult for the light shield to rotate after tightening, it is necessary to add a washer between the light shield and the stage. After the thickness of the washer is tightened with the screw, the shutter can be rotated easily, the positioning marbles will not escape, and the positioning of the shutter is correct.


4. The mirror frame cannot be fixed when the hip is tilted:
This is caused by the loosening of the connecting screws between the frame and the base. Use a special double-head wrench or use needle-nosed pliers to clamp the two holes of the double-eye nut and tighten it firmly. If the problem is not solved after tightening, it is necessary to add an appropriate gasket to the nut to solve it.
