Polarizing microscope light sheet production process
When observing with a polarizing microscope, the sample should be made into a qualified polished or polished sheet, referred to as a light sheet for short. The production process is as follows:
(1) Sample selection: Select representative sample parts according to the purpose of observation and analysis requirements, cut into 10×10×10mm sample blocks, and clean them.
(2) Mounting or glue penetration: For some samples with small size, it is necessary to mount; for samples with sorrel or more pores, glue penetration should be performed first.
(3) Coarse grinding: select the flat side of the sample, put it on the grinder to smooth the surface with coarse sand, tidy up the appearance, and grind off the edges and corners.
(4) Fine grinding: Grinding with fine sand until all traces left by coarse grinding are removed.
(5) Fine grinding: Grind with finer fine sand until the surface is flat, and the reflection is faintly visible when placed in a bright place.
(6) Polishing: Put the sample on a polishing machine, add abrasive paste (polishing powder) to polish until the surface of the sample is bright, and there is no obvious scratch under the reflection microscope.
(7) Marking: The ground samples should be numbered and labeled to clarify the source and name.
(8) Erosion: Select the appropriate erosion method and erosion conditions according to the observation purpose and analysis requirements, and erode the sample.
When the microstructure analysis needs to be carried out under the transmitted light and reflected light at the same time, the sample is made into a light thin section, or even an ultra-light thin section (<0.02mm). When preparing light thin slices, first grind the sample into a thin slice with a thickness of 0.03 mm without a cover glass, and then polish the finely ground thin slice surface on a polishing machine.
