Selection and measurement principle of laser rangefinder
Measurement principle and method of action
With the development of technology, it seems that most people are still unaware of the existence and knowledge of laser rangefinders. Even some workers are using tape measures to measure distance and pen to calculate areas, volumes, and so on. Below, I will introduce the principle and usage method of laser rangefinder, which can enable workers to work and study efficiently and accurately.
Laser rangefinder is an instrument that uses laser to accurately measure the distance of a target. The laser rangefinder emits a very thin laser beam towards the target during operation, and the reflected laser beam is received by the photoelectric element. The timer measures the time from emission to reception of the laser beam and calculates the distance from the observer to the target.
If the laser is continuously emitted, the measuring range can reach about 40 kilometers and it can operate day and night. If the laser is pulsed, the accuracy is generally low, but when used for long-distance measurements, it can achieve good relative accuracy.
The world's laser was first developed by scientist Meiman from Hughes Aircraft Company in 1960. The US military quickly conducted research on laser devices based on this foundation. In 1961, the first laser rangefinder passed the US military demonstration test, and soon after, the laser rangefinder entered the practical consortium.
Laser rangefinders are lightweight, small in size, easy to operate, fast and accurate, with an error of only one-fifth to one hundredth of other optical rangefinders. Therefore, they are widely used for terrain measurement, battlefield measurement, tank, aircraft, ship and artillery ranging of targets, measuring the height of clouds, aircraft, missiles, and artificial satellites. It is an important technical equipment for improving the accuracy of high tanks, aircraft, ships, and artillery.
Due to the continuous price reduction of laser rangefinders, they are gradually being used in industry. A new batch of miniature rangefinders with advantages such as fast ranging, small size, and reliable performance have emerged both domestically and internationally, which can be widely used in industrial measurement and control, mining, ports, and other fields.
