Several points to pay attention to when observing gemstones under a microscope
Microscope is one of the important instruments in gemstone identification work. It is one of the best instruments for searching for inclusions, detecting cracks or vulnerable areas, detecting artificial processing, identifying assembled gemstones, natural and synthetic gemstones, and optimizing processed gemstones.
1. The structure of the microscope:
The microscope consists of three major systems, as follows.
1) Optical system: can be used to observe the shape, color, contents, and fluorescence of gemstones.
2) Lighting system: Utilizing a high-quality stereo zoom microscope to provide clear three-dimensional images for both eyes.
3) Machine maple system: It can move and rotate gemstones quite flexibly without affecting the observation quality. The components of the microscope include an eyepiece, objective lens, zoom system bottom light source, top light source, power switch, light intensity adjustment knob, bracket, focal length adjustment knob, locking ring, spring gemstone clip, etc.
a, Eyepiece: Installed at the upper end of the lens tube, double tube, with two types of magnification: 10x and 20x.
b, Objective lens: Installed at the bottom of the lens tube, with an adjustable magnification of 0-4 times.
c, Zoom knob: can continuously adjust the magnification of the objective lens.
d, Adjusting knob: composed of a rack and a knob, it can lift and lower the mirror body, adjust the working distance between the objective lens and the measured gemstone, and make the measured area clear and focused.
e, Top light source: Surface vertical illumination light source, usually a fluorescent lamp, with adjustable direction.
f, Bottom light source: A bottom illuminated transmission light source, usually an incandescent lamp, built-in, non adjustable direction, and the light intensity can be adjusted by sliding the key.
g, Lock aperture: controls the amount of light emitted by the background light source.
h, Barrier: Change the lighting mode of the bottom light source (bright/dark).
i, Gem tweezers: used for holding gemstones, can move up and down, left and right, back and forth, and rotate on its own.
