Six basic usage methods of a multimeter
Select an appropriate measurement range: Before using a multimeter, first determine the voltage, current, or resistance range of the circuit to be measured, and then select the corresponding measurement range. Generally, choose a range slightly larger than the value to be measured to ensure the accuracy and safety of the measurement.
2. Prepare the measuring leads: There are usually two commonly used measuring leads for a multimeter. One is red and is connected to the positive terminal or the red socket; the other is black and is connected to the negative terminal or the black socket. Before measurement, ensure that the measuring leads are in good contact and there is no breakage or wear.
3. Connect the circuit: According to the parameter to be measured, connect the red measuring lead to the positive pole of the circuit to be measured, connect the black measuring lead to the negative pole of the circuit to be measured, and ensure that the connection is firm.
4. Select the measurement mode and function: A multimeter usually has different measurement modes and functions, such as DC voltage, AC voltage, DC current, AC current, resistance, etc. According to the need, select the appropriate measurement mode and function, and adjust the knob or button of the multimeter to place it in the appropriate position.
5. Perform the measurement: After the connection and setting are completed, the measurement can be started. According to the selected measurement mode, read the value displayed on the multimeter, which is the voltage, current, or resistance value of the circuit to be measured. When reading the value, pay attention to keeping the connection between the measuring leads and the circuit stable to avoid errors in the measurement results.
6. Turn off the circuit and back up the data: After completing the measurement, turn off the circuit to be measured in a timely manner to ensure personal safety. In addition, if it is necessary to record the measurement results, before the next measurement, record the values or back them up to a computer or other devices to prevent data loss.
