Status Quo and Development Trend of Handheld Laser Rangefinder

This is an era of rapid technological development, and people's lives are increasingly dependent on scientific and technological achievements. Take the laser rangefinder as an example. In the past, people used tape measure, dropped the line, and measured the distance. Now it can be done by pressing a button on this small laser rangefinder. Moreover, the laser rangefinder is more accurate and smaller than those traditional measurement methods. Lightweight and easy to carry.

Due to the wide range of uses, the development of laser rangefinders is unstoppable. Now there are laser rangefinders on the market: pulsed laser rangefinders and phase laser rangefinders. Although they are all used to measure distances, they have their own advantages. Among them, the pulsed laser rangefinder has a wide measurement range and poor accuracy, while the phase-type laser rangefinder has a small measurement range but high accuracy and can reach the millimeter level. Among them, the application fields of pulsed laser ranging are also becoming wider and wider, such as terrain measurement, tactical frontier ranging, missile orbit tracking, and the measurement of the distance from artificial satellites and the earth to the moon. The pulsed laser ranging method uses the characteristics of very short duration of laser pulses, relatively concentrated energy, and high instantaneous power. In the case of cooperative targets, pulsed laser ranging can achieve extremely long ranges; if only using the measured The weak reflection signal obtained by the target's diffuse reflection of the pulsed laser can also be measured. Therefore, the pulsed laser ranging method is widely used.

Now briefly explain the working principle of the pulsed laser rangefinder: the laser emitted by the rangefinder is reflected by the object to be measured and then received by the rangefinder. The rangefinder simultaneously records the laser round-trip time, the product of the speed of light and the round-trip time. Half is the distance between the rangefinder and the object being measured.

The measurement accuracy of pulsed laser rangefinders is poor, and the general accuracy can only reach the level of m, so some occasions or projects with high precision requirements need to use phase-type laser rangefinders. However, for long-distance measurement, due to the wide range of measurement, the measurement error of one or two meters is already considered to be very accurate.
