The difference between an infrared thermometer and an optical pyrometer is as follows

The first is the measurement range. The optical pyrometer measures a high temperature of 700°C to 3200°C, while the infrared thermometer has a wider temperature measurement range, from a low temperature of tens of degrees below zero to a high temperature of 3000 degrees, which can be said to be wider.

They also have obvious differences in readings. The optical pyrometer reads based on the pointer on the dial and LED display, while the infrared thermometer reads through LED display, automatic storage of the thermometer or reading through computer software.

Differences in aiming methods. Optical pyrometers are aimed through eyepiece observation, while infrared thermometers can not only use a visual viewfinder, but also use laser target light and video modules. In the measurement band, the optical pyrometer is around 0.66um, while the infrared thermometer is between 0.7~14um.

The measurement accuracy of optical pyrometers is ±1%, laboratory pyrometers can reach ±0.05%, and infrared thermometers can reach up to 0.1%.

In the working mode, after the mechanical installation is completed, it automatically measures and reads (online) or the hand-held thermometer aims at the target and presses the button to read.

Optical pyrometers use human eyes to observe and adjust the current flowing through the filament to change the height of the filament until it has the same brightness as the background light, and the reading error is large.

Infrared Thermometer
Infrared temperature measurement technology plays an important role in product quality control and monitoring, equipment online fault diagnosis and safety protection, and energy conservation during the production process. In the past 20 years, non-contact infrared human body thermometers have developed rapidly in technology, their performance has been continuously improved, their functions have been continuously enhanced, their varieties have continued to increase, and their scope of application has also continued to expand. Compared with contact temperature measurement methods, infrared temperature measurement has the advantages of fast response time, non-contact, safe use and long service life. Non-contact infrared thermometers include three series: portable, online and scanning, and are equipped with various options and computer software. Each series has various models and specifications. Among various models of thermometers with different specifications, it is very important for users to correctly select the model of infrared thermometer.

Optical pyrometer
Optical pyrometers are non-contact temperature instruments.

When the temperature to be measured is higher than the range that the thermocouple can be used, and in places where it is impossible or inappropriate to install a thermocouple, an optical pyrometer can generally meet this requirement.

It is widely used to measure the temperature of smelting, casting, steel rolling, glass melting, forging, heat treatment, etc. It is one of the indispensable temperature measuring instruments in the industrial production processes of metallurgy, chemical industry and machinery.
