The difference between infrared rangefinder and laser rangefinder

Principle of infrared rangefinder
As a precision measurement tool, infrared rangefinder has been widely used in various fields. Rangefinders can be divided into ultrasonic rangefinders, infrared rangefinders, and laser rangefinders. The so-called infrared rangefinder refers to a laser infrared rangefinder, also known as a laser rangefinder. Infrared rangefinder - an instrument that uses modulated infrared light for precise distance measurement. The measurement range is generally 1-5 kilometers.

It uses the principle of non-diffusion when infrared rays propagate. Because the refractive index of infrared rays is very small when passing through other substances, long-distance rangefinders will consider infrared rays, and the propagation of infrared rays takes time. When infrared rays are emitted from the rangefinder and hit a reflective object, they are reflected back to the rangefinder. After receiving the infrared ray, the distance can be calculated based on the time from when the infrared ray is emitted to when it is received and the propagation speed of the infrared ray. Therefore, the industry calls it a laser infrared photoelectric distance meter. Its magnet is a special strong magnetic permanent magnet.

The modulated signal frequency f generated by the main oscillator (i.e., the main oscillator) is amplified and added to the GaAs light emitting tube. After being modulated by the current, the infrared modulated light is emitted from the transmitting optical system to the reflector of the mirror station. After reflection , the returned light is received by the receiving optical system, reaches the silicon photodiode, and undergoes photoelectric conversion to obtain a high-frequency ranging signal.

In the automated infrared rangefinder, a logic command circuit is provided for program control. The novel rangefinders developed in recent years also use microprocessor systems, which can not only complete the above-mentioned program control, but also develop a variety of other automatic test functions, including various methods of distance measurement, calculation, and self-testing. , very convenient to use.

Laser rangefinder principle
Laser rangefinder is an instrument that uses a certain parameter of modulated laser to measure the distance to a target. The measurement range of the laser rangefinder is 3.5~5000 meters.

According to the ranging method, it is divided into phase method rangefinder and pulse method rangefinder. The pulse laser rangefinder emits a beam or a sequence of short pulse laser beams to the target during operation, and the photoelectric element receives the laser reflected by the target. The timer measures the time from emission to reception of the laser beam and calculates the distance from the observer to the target. The phase method laser distance meter detects distance by detecting the phase difference that occurs when emitted light and reflected light propagate in space. The laser rangefinder is light in weight, small in size, simple to operate, fast and accurate, and its error is only one-fifth to one-hundredth of that of other optical rangefinders. The picture on the right shows a typical phase method rangefinder. and pulse method rangefinder diagram.

A laser rangefinder is an instrument that uses a certain parameter of a modulated laser to accurately measure the distance to a target. The pulse laser rangefinder emits a beam or a sequence of short pulse laser beams to the target during operation. The photoelectric element receives the laser beam reflected by the target. The timer measures the time from emission to reception of the laser beam and calculates the time from measurement. The distance from the meter to the target.

The difference between infrared rangefinder and laser rangefinder
Infrared ranging is a type of laser ranging.

There are two types of laser ranging:
1) Red light laser ranging (also called visible light ranging).

2) Infrared laser ranging.

Both are collectively called laser ranging.
There is another ultrasonic rangefinder on the market, which is often passed off as infrared rangefinder or laser rangefinder by sellers. Be careful not to be fooled.

The method to distinguish between laser rangefinder and ultrasonic rangefinder is:

Laser rangefinders (whether red light or infrared light) have at least one optical lens, and some have two optical lenses, one large and one small.
