The use of a metallographic microscope

1. According to the required magnification for observing the sample, correctly select the objective lens and eyepiece, and install them on the objective lens holder and eyepiece tube respectively.

2. Align the center of the stage with the center of the objective lens, and place the prepared sample in the center of the stage with the observation surface facing downwards.

3. Insert the bulb of the Olympus metallographic microscope into a low-voltage transformer (6-8V), and then plug the transformer plug into a 220V power socket to make the bulb light up.

4. Rotate the coarse focusing handwheel, lower the stage, and make the observation surface of the sample close to the objective lens; Then rotate the coarse focus knob in reverse, raise the stage, so that a blurry image can be seen in the eyepiece* Rotate the fine adjustment focus handwheel until the image is clear.

5. Adjust the aperture stop and field stop appropriately, and select suitable filters to obtain the ideal object image.

6. Move the stage back, forth, left, and right to observe different parts of the sample, in order to analyze and find representative microstructures.

7. After observation, the power should be cut off in a timely manner to extend the service life of the light bulb.

8. After the experiment, the objective lens and eyepiece should be carefully removed and checked for dust and other contaminants. If there is any contamination, it should be gently wiped clean with lens paper in a timely manner, and then stored in a dryer to prevent moisture and mold. Olympus metallographic microscopes should also be covered with dust covers at all times.
