There are three ways to hold the soldering iron:

① The reverse grip method is to hold the handle of the soldering iron in the palm of your hand with your five fingers. This method is suitable for high-power electric soldering irons to weld parts to be welded that dissipate large amounts of heat.

② Forward grip method This method is suitable for larger electric soldering irons. This method is also generally used for curved soldering iron heads.

③ Pen holding method: Use the pen holding method to hold the soldering iron. This method is suitable for low-power soldering irons and welding parts to be welded with small heat dissipation, such as welding printed circuit boards of radios and televisions and their maintenance.

Preparation before using the soldering iron
Turn on the power to "tin" the soldering iron tip before use. First, use a flat knife to bend the soldering iron tip into a certain shape as required, and then connect the power supply. When the temperature of the soldering iron tip rises to the point where it can melt tin, dip the soldering iron tip in rosin, wait for the rosin to smoke, and then apply a layer of it. Solder, repeat this two to three times, until the blade surface of the soldering iron tip is completely covered with a layer of tin and it is ready for use.

The electric soldering iron should not be powered on for a long time without being used, as this will easily cause the soldering iron core to accelerate oxidation and burn out, shortening its life.

Sometimes it will also cause the soldering iron tip to oxidize due to long-term heating, and even be "burned to death" and no longer "eat tin".

Precautions for using soldering iron
① Choose different types of soldering irons appropriately according to the welding object.

② Do not hit the soldering iron tip arbitrarily during use to avoid damage. The wall thickness of the steel pipe of the internal heating soldering iron connecting rod is only 0.2mm, so it cannot be clamped with pliers to avoid damage. It should be maintained regularly during use to ensure that the soldering iron tip is covered with a thin layer of tin.

solder
Solder is a fusible metal that connects component leads to the connection points on a printed circuit board. Tin (Sn) is a soft, malleable silver-white metal with a melting point of 232°C. It has stable chemical properties at room temperature, is not easily oxidized, does not lose its metallic luster, and has strong resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Lead (Pb) is a soft, light blue-white metal with a melting point of 327°C. High-purity lead has strong resistance to atmospheric corrosion and good chemical stability, but it is harmful to the human body. Adding a certain proportion of lead and a small amount of other metals to tin can produce products with low melting point, good fluidity, strong adhesion to components and wires, high mechanical strength, good conductivity, not easy to oxidize, good corrosion resistance, and bright solder joints. Beautiful solder, generally called solder.

Solder can be divided into 15 types according to the tin content, and is divided into three grades: S, A, and B according to the tin content and the chemical composition of impurities. Wire soldering is commonly used in manual soldering.
