Twelve Requirements for Maintenance Work of Metallographic Microscopes

① The laboratory shall meet three conditions: vibration isolation (keep away from vibration sources), moisture prevention (use air conditioners and dryers), and dust prevention (lay floor boards). Power supply: 220V±10%, 50Hz; temperature: 0°C–40°C.

② Be careful not to let the objective lens collide with the specimen during focusing, to avoid scratching the objective lens.

③ When the center of the hole on the loading stage gasket is far from the center of the objective lens, do not switch the objective lens, so as to prevent scratching the objective lens.

④ Adjust the brightness gradually; do not turn it up or down abruptly. This will extend the service life of the bulb and reduce vibration.

⑤ All function switching operations shall be gentle and in place. ⑥ Reduce the brightness to the minimum before shutdown.

⑦ Non-professional personnel shall not adjust the illumination system (filament alignment), to avoid affecting the imaging quality.

⑧ Be cautious of high temperature when replacing the halogen lamp to prevent burns. Do not directly touch the glass body of the halogen lamp with your hands.

⑨ When the instrument is not in use, lower the objective lens to the low position via the focusing mechanism.

⑩ When the instrument is not in use, install the dust cover immediately. Wait for the lamp to cool down before covering; pay attention to fire prevention.

⑪ Optical components that are not frequently used shall be stored in a desiccator.

⑫ Non-professional personnel shall not wipe the objective lens or other optical components. The eyepiece can be wiped with a cotton swab dipped in a 3:7 mixture of anhydrous alcohol and ether, and wiped dry afterwards. Do not use other liquids, as they may damage the eyepiece.
