Usage Methods and Precautions for Clamp Meters

Choose the appropriate range gear: Before using a clamp ammeter, first select the appropriate range gear based on the magnitude of the measured current. If the measured current is small, the current carrying wire can be wound a few more times and placed in the clamp for measurement, but it is important to note that the actual current value is obtained by dividing the reading by the number of coils wound.

Clamp the test wire: Clamp the running test wire into the clamp iron core of the clamp ammeter. Be sure to position the wire in the center of the clamp and ensure that the clamp is tightly closed to reduce magnetic leakage and errors.

Reading measurement results: After clamping the wire, the clamp ammeter will automatically measure the current and display the result on the digital display screen or indicator panel. At this point, simply read the reading on the digital display screen or indicator panel.

Precautions for clamp ammeter
Check the rubber insulation and clamp state of the clamp iron core: Before using the clamp ammeter, it is necessary to check whether the rubber insulation of the clamp iron core is intact, and whether the clamp is clean, rust free, and has no obvious gaps after closing. If any problems are found, they should be replaced or repaired in a timely manner.

Choose the appropriate range gear: Select the appropriate range gear based on the magnitude of the measured current, avoiding using a small range gear to measure high current or a large range gear to measure low current, in order to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results.

Avoid switching range gears during the measurement process: Switching range gears during the measurement process can cause damage to the instrument and even endanger personal safety. Therefore, the appropriate range gear should be selected based on the estimated current before measurement, and switching should be avoided during the measurement process.

Pay attention to the voltage and current limits on the circuit: The voltage and current of the tested circuit cannot exceed the values indicated on the clamp meter. At the same time, clamp ammeters should not be used to measure the current of high-voltage circuits to prevent accidents or electric shock hazards.

Pay attention to the weather and environmental conditions during measurement: A clamp gauge should be used for measurement in dry and thunderstorm free weather, and avoid use in harsh environments such as humidity, corrosive gases, or dust. In addition, two people should be responsible for the operation, one for measurement and one for supervision.
