What are the functions of a gas detector in a variety of environments?

Recently, the frequent occurrence of hazardous gas incidents across the country has attracted widespread attention from all parties, especially the 12.4 major accident at Yongchuan Coal Mine in Chongqing, which has once again brought "hazardous gas detection" into people's sight. China has always had particularly strict requirements for detecting hazardous gases in the workplace, but due to varying levels of attention and economic conditions from enterprises, there are still a large number of environmental risks that are uncontrollable. To ensure the personal safety of factory employees and save costs, the company can equip employees with multifunctional gas detectors, which can be carried with them for personal gas detection or placed in gas hazardous areas for area detection. By using the built-in sound and light alarm of the gas detector, it automatically alarms and promptly reminds employees to ensure their safety.

The principle and classification of gas detectors
A gas detector is an instrument that can detect the composition and concentration of various gases in the environment. Currently, there are many brands and categories of gas detectors on the market. When choosing a gas detector, companies should make more comparisons and choose the gas detector that is suitable for themselves. Gas detectors are mainly divided into portable gas detectors and fixed gas detectors. The core technology of gas detectors is sensor technology, and the classification of gas detectors varies depending on the detection technology of gas sensors.

Gas sensors can be divided into four categories in principle:
(1) Electrical gas sensors, which use the electrical parameters of materials to change with gas concentration, can be divided into resistive and non resistive types. Resistive gas sensors mainly include contact combustion, thermal conductivity, semiconductor gas sensors (also known as metal oxide semiconductor gas sensors and organic semiconductor gas sensors), etc. Non resistive gas sensors usually use the current or voltage of materials to change with gas content.

(2) Optical gas sensors use the optical properties of gases to detect gas composition and concentration, which can be further divided into infrared absorption, visible light absorption, light interference, chemiluminescence, test paper photoelectric, photoionization, etc.

(3) Electrochemical gas sensors utilize electrochemical properties.

(4) Polymer gas sensitive material gas sensors are made from polymer gas sensitive materials and can be divided into polymer resistance type, polymer dielectric type, concentration cell type, surface acoustic wave type, quartz oscillator type, etc.

Common gas detectors
A multifunctional gas detector is a type of gas detector that is widely used due to its ability to simultaneously detect multiple gases. The multifunctional gas detector, as the name suggests, is an instrument used to detect the content of one or more gases in the environment. The detector uses natural diffusion to detect gases and uses electrochemical and combustion gas sensors, which have excellent sensitivity and repeatability. The multifunctional gas detector can detect four gases: oxygen, combustible gas, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulfide, and can store up to 130000 pieces of detection data. With software, historical data can be viewed at any time.

Whether it is a gas detector or a multifunctional gas detector, we must pay attention to the following usage precautions when using it:
1. Avoid strong impact and compression during use;

2. Charging should be done in a safe area, and it is strictly prohibited to charge in flammable and explosive hazardous areas;

3. Maintenance should be carried out by specialized personnel or institutions. During maintenance, the model, specifications, and parameters of the original circuit components must not be changed;

4. Please use the manufacturer's dedicated charger when charging;

5. Do not squeeze the display screen with your hands;

6. When the gas concentration is too high, it will have adverse effects on the electrochemical sensor of the instrument or damage the sensor;

7. When the battery level is too low, the buzzer emits a beep sound and automatically shuts down. Please charge before use.

Gas detectors have excellent sensitivity and repeatability, and can be used in industries such as petroleum, chemical, environmental protection, metallurgy, refining, gas transmission and distribution, biochemical medicine, agriculture, etc., to detect in real-time environments containing explosive gases such as combustible gas or toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and oxygen. In hazardous environments, safety is of paramount importance and prevention is necessary. We need to maintain a 120% morale, ensure that there is no harmful gas leakage on site, and ensure safe production.
