Due to the different use environments of infrared thermometers, there are always some special factors that affect its measurement accuracy. These factors include:


ambient temperature

Infrared thermometers should be used in strict accordance with the ambient temperature indicated by the technical indicators of the instrument. If it exceeds this range, the measurement error of the instrument will increase or even be damaged. When the ambient temperature is high, you can use air-cooled, water-cooled devices or thermal protection jackets, which can make the instrument work normally in environments up to 200 °C.

When the infrared thermometer is used in an environment with a large difference in ambient temperature from one environment to another, the accuracy of the instrument will be temporarily reduced. In order to obtain ideal temperature measurement results, the instrument should be placed on the work site for a period of time (recommended At least 30 minutes) to allow the instrument temperature and ambient temperature to reach equilibrium before use.


air quality

Smoke, dust and other pollutants in the air, as well as unclean lenses will prevent the instrument from receiving enough infrared energy to meet the measurement accuracy, and the measurement error of the instrument will increase. Therefore, it is possible to keep the lens clean frequently, and the air blower helps to keep the lens free from contamination.


environmental radiation

When there are other high-temperature objects, light sources or solar radiation around the measured target, these radiations will directly or indirectly enter the measurement optical path, resulting in measurement errors. In order to overcome the influence of environmental radiation, first of all, it is necessary to avoid environmental radiation directly entering the optical path, and the measured target should be filled with the field of view of the instrument as much as possible. For the indirect interference of environmental radiation, the method of shielding can be used to eliminate it.


electromagnetic interference

The instrument should be as far away as possible from potential sources of electrical interference, such as electrical equipment with large load changes. The output and input connections of the online instrument use shielded wires and ensure that the shielded wires are well grounded. In high interference environments, use external protective conduit, rigid conduit is better than flexible conduit. Do not lead AC power from other equipment into the same conduit.

In order to ensure accurate measurement, the instrument should try to measure along the normal direction of the surface of the measured object (perpendicular to the surface of the measured object) when measuring. If it cannot be guaranteed to be in the normal direction, it should also be measured within a 45° angle to the normal direction, otherwise the instrument display value will be low.


The size of the field of view and the target should ensure that the target enters the instrument's measurement field of view. The smaller the target, the closer it should be. In actual measurement, in order to reduce the error, generally the size of the target should be more than twice the size of the spot in the field of view.
