What is the LEL in the gas detector?

Nowadays, we can see gas detectors everywhere in petrochemical, chemical manufacturing, pharmaceutical and microbiological industries, whether it is detecting gas concentration, gas composition, or detecting gas micro-leakage, a useful gas detector The detector can provide a safe environment for our production and life. However, when we use the gas detector on a daily basis, words like 0-100LEL often appear on the detection range of the liquid crystal label of the gas detector. So do you know what the gas detector LEL means?

The LEL in the gas detector actually refers to the concentration value of the gas alarm.

The low content of combustible gas that can cause an explosion is called the lower explosion limit Low Explosion - Level (LEL).

LEL is not a unit, it refers to a value, generally refers to the volume ratio of explosive gas in the air. The value of LEL is not detected by the instrument, it is a different value for different gases in the national standard. The data displayed by the gas detection instrument only indicates the concentration of combustible gas in the air for alarm. Generally, the quantitative analysis instrument is marked with what gas is detected. If it is a qualitative analysis instrument, it cannot show what kind of gas it is.

When the concentration of combustible gas in the air reaches its lower explosion limit, we call the explosion hazard of combustible gas environment in this place 100%, that is, 100%LEL. If the combustible gas content only reaches 10% of its lower explosion limit, we call the explosion hazard of combustible gas in this place at this time 10% LEL; the monitoring of combustible gas in the ambient air often directly gives the environmental hazard of combustible gas. degree, that is, the percentage of the content of the combustible gas in the air and its lower explosion limit: [%LEL]

That is to say, when the value of the detector reaches the "100%LEL" alarm point, it means that the content of methane at this time is "5%" by volume. When the value of the combustible gas detector reaches the "25%LEL" alarm point, it means that the content of methane is "1.25%" by volume. However, you don't have to worry about whether there will be danger at any time after the combustible gas detector alarms, it is still a certain distance from the explosion. Take corresponding measures immediately, such as turning on the exhaust fan or cutting off some valves or opening the sprinkler system, etc., and the danger of explosion will not appear. There is still a large gap to report to the dangerous lower explosion limit that may really occur, so that the alarm will be played.
